The island of Santa Maria was the first to be discovered. It is said that Diogo de Silves in a voyage back to the Arquipelago of Madeira found Santa Maria in the year 1427. The capital of Santa Maria is Vila do Porto, and is the oldest of all the Villages in the Azores. |
